Liquid Dreams Sucks!Home of the Welcome back to the sad, sordid story of how we contracted with Patt Daugherty, owner of Liquid Dreams Custom Pools of Austin, Texas, to build us a pool; and how Patt and company left us and many other homeowners thousands of dollars in the hole because of of incompetence, walking off the job, failing to pay subcontractors, and subsequently leaving homeowners with liens that force them to pay for the same job twice. This website will serve as a warning and hopefully prevent others from falling into the same trap. It's important to know that Texas does not regulate pool builders in the same way as other contractors, so don't look to the state for any kind of protection. Anyone can hang out a shingle and claim they are a pool builder even if they don't know their *ss from a hole in the ground. And that's what at least one victim wound up with. Others were forced to finish their own pools while Patt went off to greener pastures, and shell out more cash to fix deficiencies because the pools don't pass inspection. ![]() It's recently been brought to our ever-loving attention that Patt is claiming that this site was offline for some time because of inaccuracies. Wrongo! We're baaaaaack! The truth: Patt Daugherty / Liquid Dreams Custom Pools was making reparations to a few of his most vocal victims while being investigated by the Austin Police Department and the Travis County District Attorney. When the investigation stalled, so did the repayments. That's how he rolls. Whew! Typing into that little box was making me claustrophobic. For just a partial recap, check this out: http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Body/liquid-dreams.aspx BTW, if you got ripped off, http://www.ripoffreport.com is a great place to vent. If you do so, shoot us an email at LiquidDreamsSucks@gmail.com and we'll tout it here as well. But now, onto business: rather than recount the whole, sordid Patt-the-Builder saga again, we'll start the sharing with some public documents. To see all of these for yourself, go to this Travis County website, and enter LIQUID DREAMS in the into the second field (the one labeled "Grantee"). Under "Document Type", click "ABSTRACT OF JUDGMENT", then click the Search button. You'll see this:
If you have Java installed, click the paper icon to read the documents. Then press the back button, click "AFFIDAVIT OF CLAIM" and repeat. You'll see this:
Go ahead... we'll wait. Back yet? Good. Many of these are folks who filed liens and obtained judgments against Liquid Dreams -- some are homeowners, some are subcontractors, some are media that he stiffed on advertising. While it doesn't address who might or might not have been paid back for this chicanery, we (the royal "we") know for a fact that there are folks on this list who are still whistling into the wind and don't mind being used as examples for this cautionary tale. In case there is any doubt that this is Patt's operation, now repeat the search operation by typing DAUGHERTY PATT into the second field (the one labeled "Grantee"). Click the Search button again. You'll see claims/liens/judgments made against the Great Patt himself. For those of you who don't have Java (which the Travis County website inexplicably requires), a few of the documents are below but you'll have to squint a bit or get out Grandpa's magnifying glass (you know, the one that looks like an old ship's steering wheel):
Ouch. I'll bet that smarts. Here are a couple more...
There are almost certainly additional arbitration judgments, as required by Patt's contracts. Unfortunately, "confirming" such judgments is largely useless -- throwing good money (hundreds of dollars in filing fees) after bad. Can't squeeze blood from a turnip, snot from a stone... Don't expect the Austin-Area Better Business Bureau (BBB) to be much help. They exist for the benefit of their business members. If you doubt, read this article that was recently published in Reader's Digest (which specifically mentions the Austin-area BBB) and prepare to quake with rage. The only way to put Patt out of business is to change state law restricting how much he can collect for each phase of a pool construction job. Wo be to whomever pays him up front. Well... that's enough for one night. Sign up with ChangeDetection.com below and you'll get a nifty automated email when this page is changed or updated. It's private, so we won't even know who you are unless you email us (Hi Patt!). Please also do your part -- write us at LiquidDreamsSucks@gmail.com and tell us how Patt made your "pool experience an unforgettable one". And if that link makes your blood boil like ours, join the chorus, and file a Ripoff Report! Let us know what shenanigans the Patt is up to, and we'll share!
